How's about a little cul-ture!

Sorry for the delay in my postings, but like always, everything just seems to be going so fast, and as the program director so cruelly pointed out yesterday, the semesters already half-way gone, which seems to me impossible! I also cannot believe in less than two weeks I will be seeing my mommy for a little adventure through espana! Necessito practicar! Ay ay ay! But the past few weeks have been great fun. Last Sunday I attended the part of fashion weekend that is open to the public, and I got to see the catwalk and shop at discounted prices from top designers, which was quite the experience, let me tell you. It was in the Somerset House, which is a giant, gorgeous building right on the bank of the Thames, and the house was full to the brim of clothes and immaculately dressed girls fighting over it. I felt slightly out of my element but thoroughly enjoyed it none the less, and I literally spent over 5 hours just shopping, it was every man’s nightmare, and at the end of the day I felt as if I had just run a marathon, I was so drained haha.

I’m also really beginning to appreciate my Theatre class as well, although I think even Shakespeare would be hard pressed to get an A in the course, our teacher who is flamboyantly English and very proud and arrogant (tonight I heard him call the ticket taker at the theatre a ‘silly old cow’ for directing him to the wrong aisle), he is the most connected man in London, seriously, he directed Hugh Grant, hangs out with Ian McClennin, discovered tons of other famous stage and film actors and literally can get us into anywhere and to meet anyone in London. It’s really awesome. On Monday, we got a tour of the Royal Opera House, which was incredible/so inspiring and seriously made me consider the theatre business. We got to see the teching for Alice in Wonderland, a new original ballet, and we got to see the ballerinas being trained, and we got to go explore the props room and the costume room. It was incredible. Then on Monday night, we got to see Frankenstein, which was honestly the best play I have ever seen staged. It was just like the Mary Shelley novel, and it was gruesome, touching, artistic, and creepy all at once. http://www.timeout.com/london/theatre/event/208410/frankenstein#comments-form

Last night, we got to host our program director, Graham, for a dinner in our flat. We cooked him an Italian feast, where each person cooked a dish, and the flat hadn’t looked that good since we first moved in. Graham is a funny, older British gentleman, who looks something like an older James Bond, and is extremely hilarious. Let me just say, none of us were complaining about having to play host, and we all had a great evening.

Then tonight, I just got back from the Mikado at the Coliseum Theatre. It is an opera-play that is a funny adaptation of a play from the early 20th century. Although it was a little hard to understand it all the time, the play was funny in a really over-the-top, musical sort of way.

Anyways that’s been my week in London so far. I miss all my relations from all over the globe, and hope everyone is doing well!
